FAQS
Can I be paired with my friend in a group? Yes! You will have a chance to mark whether or not you have a friend participating. If so, we will contact you and try to coordinate it so that you can ride/play together.
Can I just show up at one facility or do I have do the whole thing? This is a group effort. We will be riding leisurely to each facility as a group. You will not be able to just show up at one place and participate.
Why can’t I bring my kids? Great question! It’s a liability issue. This is our first time and we want to work out the kinks before we introduce the children. Because we are riding city streets, it’s important for us to be safe and to ride with folks who understand the bicycling rules of the road – particularly how to avoid cars!
How do I pay? You can pay by check or cash at one of our participating businesses [link here to flyer maybe?]. If you must pay be credit card, please contact Leah Cox at 916-534-7750 or Whitney Chamberlain at 916-288-5173. We prefer cash and checks because it means more money goes toward the non-profit programs, and less money in bank transaction fees.
What kind of bikes will we be riding? We will be renting 30 bikes from Bikes and Bites. They are single-speed beach cruisers with a basket in the front (so you can hold all of your loot). There are only 30 bikes available to rent and 50 spots in the crawl. That means at least 20 participants will need to bring their own bicycle. If you don’t have a bike, consider registering early to guarantee yourself one.
Do I have to ride a cruiser? If you are renting a bike with us, yes, it will be a beach cruiser. If you bring your own bike, then anything is possible: mountain, hybrid, road bike, cruiser, etc. Just know that even though your bike might be faster, you will still be asked to stay with the group and your Crawl Leader. Also, you will be given a swag bag that will be filled along the route. If your bike does not have a basket, please bring a back pack or other means to carry your swag bag safely.
How will I know where to go? You will be given a list of businesses and addresses in order for your particular group, just in case you get separated. However, you will also have a Crawl Leader who will be directing your group throughout the event.
What if I’m not in tip-top shape? Not to worry! Neither are we! As long as you safely steer and stop/start a bicycle, you’re good to go! Though you can participate at each facility, it’s not a requirement. We want you to try new things, but only when you feel safe and comfortable doing so.
Why is PepsiCo sponsoring a Wellness Task Force event? Did you know that PepsiCo has an entire line of healthier food options? Have you heard of True North, IZZE, Stacy’s Pita Chips, Quaker, Aquafina or Naked Juice? These are all PepsiCo products. Did you know that SunChips are made by PepsiCo, have whole grains and are made with the healthier sunflower oil (not palm, cottonseed or hydrogenated oils)? Did you know that PepsiCo has agreed to stop marketing “junk food” items to children under 12? We know, and we support their efforts to provide healthier options for working folks. Not everyone can make it to the natural foods store each week, so it’s good to know what options are available in the average supermarket.
